Celebrating Difference: A Whole-school Approach to LGBT+ Inclusion

Shaun Dellenty Be’d. NPQH Points of Light, FCCT is a leading figure in the educational sector, who proudly became the first UK primary school leader to come out as gay to the national press. Throughout his career, Shaun has passionately advocated LGBT+ inclusion , also serving as an ambassador for Opening Doors London, a charity that supports LGBT+ seniors. An engaging and compassionate LGBT+ advocate , Shaun is now a popular choice as a global LGBT speaker for events.

Named as one of the 100 Most Influential LGBT People in the UK and on the Guardian Global Diversity List as a Top 20 LGBT Figures in Public Life, Shaun has had a significant impact as an advisor to the Global Equality Collective and the Centre for LGBTQ Inclusion in Education. Shaun is also a member of the Institute of Equality and Diversity Practitioners. Shaun was designated a Point of Light for services to the LGBT+ community by the Prime Minister in 2016.

For over a decade, Shaun has travelled the globe delivering intersectional diversity and inclusion training, helping high-profile organisations such as Amnesty, Show Racism The Red Card, NSPCC, Lloyds, Investec and HSBC to be more LGBT inclusive. Having launched the Inclusion For All training suite in 2009, Shaun has nurtured personal, organisational and cultural change in educational, corporate and parliamentary settings. Since 2009, Shaun has trained a staggering 100,000 educational professionals in the U.K. alone and been featured in publications such as Huffington Post, London Evening Standard, Leadership Focus and the Times Educational Supplement as well as on the BBC and international television. He authored the acclaimed book ‘Celebrating Difference’ for Bloomsbury and was designated a Pride Hero by Pride In London. In 2022, Shaun was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Education from the University of Derby, in recognition of his 13 years of global work as an LGBT+ advocate.
