Paul Burrell is a distinguished former royal servant, author and speaker, widely recognised for his unique perspective on life within the British monarchy and his close relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales. Today, he is also sought after as an LGBT speaker, using his personal journey alongside his extraordinary career to deliver powerful talks on identity, authenticity and resilience. Combining royal insight with lived experience, Paul offers audiences a rare blend of history, humanity and personal truth.

Paul’s journey began in a working-class family in Grassmoor, a coal-mining village in the north of England, far removed from the grandeur he would later experience. Inspired at a young age to work for the monarchy, he joined Buckingham Palace as a footman at 18 and steadily rose through the ranks. His dedication and professionalism led to his appointment as butler to the Prince and Princess of Wales at Highgrove House, where he managed both private and official engagements. In this role, Paul travelled extensively and gained unparalleled insight into the lifestyles, expectations and pressures faced by the royal family and global elite, shaping his understanding of leadership, discretion and service.

Following his retirement from royal service, Paul transitioned into a successful media and speaking career. He was awarded the Royal Victorian Medal in recognition of his service and later authored his memoir, ‘A Royal Duty’, which became a New York Times number one bestseller, offering an intimate account of his experiences and his close friendship with Princess Diana. In 2025, he released his second memoir, ‘The Royal Insider’. He has since become a familiar media figure, appearing on television and at major events, while also establishing himself as an expert in etiquette, luxury, and entertaining, as well as a compelling after-dinner and keynote speaker.

As an LGBT speaker, Paul brings a deeply personal and authentic narrative to the stage. Having navigated his identity within one of the most traditional and scrutinised institutions in the world, he speaks candidly about the challenges of self-acceptance, societal expectations and living authentically under pressure. His story resonates with diverse audiences, particularly organisations seeking to foster inclusive cultures and support individuality. By blending his royal experiences with his personal journey, Paul delivers impactful insights on courage, identity and belonging, making him a powerful voice within LGBT speaking and a memorable presence at corporate and public events alike.
