Amal Fashanu is an influential British TV presenter, journalist, fashion designer, and activist, renowned for her passionate advocacy against homophobia in football. As the niece of Justin Fashanu, the UK’s first openly gay professional footballer, Amal’s work focuses on promoting inclusivity and equality, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community.

A graduate of Brunel University with a BA in Communications and Media Studies, Amal Fashanu has built a diverse career in media, fashion, and activism. Her early work includes presenting for BBC3 and making impactful documentaries. She gained significant recognition for her 2012 documentary ‘Britain’s Gay Footballers’, which explored the challenges faced by gay athletes in a traditionally conservative sport. Amal is also a fashion designer, founding the Black Heart Label, a brand combining fashion with activism to promote social causes. Alongside her work in media and fashion, she has expanded her advocacy to mental health and homophobia through the Justin Fashanu Foundation.
