Johannes Radebe is an incredibly talented Choreographer and professional dancer, best known for his appearances on the popular BBC series, Strictly Come Dancing. Passionate for dancing from the age of 11, Johannes has developed his skills as a dancer and has created an illustrious career for himself within the entertainment industry. Openly identifying as gay, Johannes aims to raise awareness about homophobia and the importance of illuminating hate and discrimination throughout society.
Having attended a dance school in his local area with his sister, Johannes was first offered training in Gauteng province at the age of 11. Naturally gifted, he began competing in competitions around the UK, and before long, Johannes became the two-time Professional South African Latin Championship winner and the three-time Amateur Latin South African Champion. Renowned for his abilities, he received the opportunity to appear on the 2014 series of South Africa’s Strictly Come Dancing as a Professional Dancer and later starred in Dancing with The Stars. A year later, Johannes was announced as a Professional Dancer on Strictly Come Dancing and won the hearts of the nation by the end of his first series on the popular show.
Taking to the dancefloor in the 17th series of the show, Johannes was partnered with Catherine Tyldesley and finished in 11th place overall. The following year, he finished in an impressive 8th place with Caroline Quentin by his side. Making headlines with his pairing in the 17th series, Johannes was placed in the first male same-sex partnership with popular TV personality, John Whaite. This partnership broke the stereotypes of traditional dancing styles and allowed them to showcase their true identities on live television.
Having flourished within the entertainment industry, Johannes has now become a talented choreographer. With first-hand experience performing on stage, he understands what an audience is looking for and was previously presented the opportunity to choreograph the West-End-themed ‘Rusical’ on RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Vs the World. Aside from his dance career, Johannes can be regularly found speaking on topics such as racism, homophobia, and discrimination. A perfect addition to many different events, ranging from dance performances to inspirational speeches, look no further than Johannes Radebe!
