A vocal LGBT+ advocate for over 20 years, Lisa Charlwood-Green has been at the forefront of championing corporate diversity and inclusion for the duration of her professional career. As the founder of The WOW Network, Lisa spearheads progressive change through her personal experiences, other’s stories, and actionable strategies to develop inclusive employers. As a speaker, Lisa has presented at many events ensuring she is experienced in creating bespoke talks that have the maximum value and impact for the audience.
Founding The WOW Network in 2017, Lisa achieved her ambitions of creating an organisation that supports LGBT+ women in the workplace. Standing for Women Out Work, The WOW Network is run entirely by LGBT+ identifying women who have the common goal of helping other LGBT+ women come out and be open about their sexuality at work. Lisa has established the only organisation of its kind in the UK, a truly safe space for guidance, education, and support. Additionally, Lisa is currently a board member at Outspoken Arts and LEAP Sports Scotland which promote equality in their respective fields.
An accomplished professional in the corporate environment, Lisa has always been open about her sexuality within the workplace. However, after a decade of being the only openly LGBT employee in a 600-person strong office, and in response to a study finding 64% of women felt unable to come out at work, Lisa was driven to establish change. Through her voluntary positions on an LGBT+ helpline and at Glasgay!, in addition to corporate roles as chair of SQA’s LGBT network and deputy chair of Network Rail’s LGBT group, Lisa has been pivotal in creating progressive action.
Described by Pride in London as ‘A Powerhouse of a Woman’, Lisa is a change agent at events, armed with her personal story and decades of experience, corporate audiences are left with the tools to create lasting LGBT+ inclusion practices. Twice Lisa has been named as a finalist for industry awards, including for Icon of the Year and Pink News Community Group of the Year, a testament to her influence. At events, Lisa’s presentations leave a long-lasting positive impact on guests.

“The session with Lisa was fabulous! We had immediate positive feedback about her session, her personal story and introducing the wheel of privilege really hit the mark for us. In particular, her story regarding her experience with surrogacy really sparked a lightbulb moment for our HR department and ensured that provisions for being a surrogate for another couple is written into our company policy. Thank you to yourself and Jo for facilitating this for us and we look forward to working with you again in the very near future!”
“The event went really really well, Lisa was fantastic, engaging and really informative. So content was covered and it left everyone excited about taking their allyship to the next level from passive to active!”
