Ugla Kristjönudóttir Jónsdóttir, otherwise known as Owl Fisher, is a leading Non-Binary Trans activist. Having established a successful career as an author, journalist and feminist campaigner, Ugla is now famed as the co-director of My Generation – a film project documenting trans lives and experiences. Named as one of the BBC 100 Most Influential Women in 2019, Ugla is now booked as an LGBT speaker for a range of events, renowned for her passionate activism for the community. A proud transgender activist, Ugla has made it her mission to make the world a more inclusive place. Born in Iceland, Ugla has been a pivotal figure in making the country more inclusive, acting as one of the founding members of HIN– the organisation for queer people in Northern Iceland. She has also been a Member of the Board and Chair of Trans Iceland, and the Education Advisor of Samtökin ’78 – the national queer organisation of Iceland. As Chair of Trans Iceland, Ugla played a major role in creating legislation to improve the rights of both trans and non-binary people in Iceland. Developing the Gender Autonomy Act, Ugla helped to get the act passed in 2019 and made Iceland more inclusive.

Other prominent roles of Ugla’s include being a Board Member of The International LGBTQI Queer and Student Organisation and her work with All About Trans. Ugla has also contributed to a range of media publications, including articles for The Independent and The Guardian, as well as writing in the DIVA Magazine and a column in The Metro. Ugla has also turned her hand to writing books, authoring the Trans Teen Survival Guide and the Trans Survival Workbook, alongside Fox Fisher. A passionate activist, Ugla has marked her name in the LGBT+ history books, having also claimed the Education and Science Award from Siðmennt.
